The Medieval Period

There is some evidence downslope from the hillfort for medieval ‘strip fields’ and, in general, an excellent example of a fossilised medieval landscape around the nearby medieval villages of Sheldon and Taddington. A hoard of 13th century coins was discovered in the valley bottom to the west of nearby Brushfield, and there is evidence of a filled-in moated site at Ashford-in-the-Water, along with a Grade II listed church at Ashford, which was originally of Norman construction.
