We are excited to invite you all to join us for an Open Day at Tarmac’s Killerby Quarry where we are currently conducting excavations across 11 hectares at a site which has yielded multi-period remains ranging from the from the Mesolithic (9,700 BC – 4,000 BC) to the Romano-British period (43 AD – 410 AD).

The Open Day is being held on Wednesday 21st August from 1pm – 6.30pm (though it is recommended to arrive before 5pm if possible as after this time will be quite busy) and where visitors will be guided around the site and be shown a number of the impressive artefacts which we have recovered so far. Tours of the site will last approximately one hour.

The site is a bit tricky to reach so for information on how to reach us on the day please follow the directions below:

  • Go to Leeming Bar village.
  • Head due north out of the village along Low Street and then at the new roundabout go straight over it towards the Shell garage.
  • Take the first right immediately off this road and this drops you back on to Low Street to Kirkby Fleetham and Great Fencote.
  • Carry on all the way along this road and do not turn off it until you get to Killerby Cottages on your right.
  • Take the right hand (going east) track immediately in front of the cottages towards Broad Close Farm.
  • Continue along this track for about 100m and parking will be signed on the left.
  • The grid reference to aim for is SE 26188 95367

We look forward to seeing you on the day!
