Survey

Cruck beam-built building
Dave surveying for the NERCZA phase 2

Surveys can take a variety of forms; from the recording of standing buildings to the recording of ancient earthworks and landscape topography.

Where archaeological remains survive as upstanding features above ground, site survey is usually the first field technique employed to provide the initial base-line record. Surveys can often be enhanced by reference to aerial photographs which help to show large features more clearly as well as the presence of buried features.

The key types of survey offered by ARS Ltd include earthwork surveys, topographic surveys, contour surveys and standing building surveys. We undertake a wide range of standing building surveys ranging from Medieval structures (such as the cruck beam-built building opposite) though to churches, castles, stately homes and industrial buildings and features, the latter including steelworks, collieries, mining remains, maritime structures and 20th century military installations.
