Ancient Forts of the Peak District
The Peak District National Park is the second most visited national park in the world, and is home to some of the most imposing, and yet little-known prehistoric enclosures in Britain.
ARS Ltd has teamed up with the Peak District National Park Authority (PDNPA), to undertake a research and public access project on the later prehistoric heritage of the region which it is hoped will include full survey of all the major enclosure sites, as well as excavation on selected sites. The objective is to open up these monuments to the public and provide a suite of interpretive materials, training and participation opportunities, as well as educational resources for local schools and improved visitor access and information.
This project is currently at the planning stage with public consultation an important feature of current work. It is hoped to secure funding in the near future for a community-led project investigating the site at Fin Cop near Monsal Head.
It is important that this project addresses the interests of the local community. If you have any views or wish to express your opinion then please contact us by using the link here.
