Archaeological Research Services Ltd (ARS Ltd) believes that its actions should not compromise the environment and, through the following points, endeavours to implement a commitment to good practice regarding the environment. ARS Ltd carries out all its activities in compliance with relevant environmental regulation.
Dissemination & Review
ARS Ltd will ensure, through ongoing staff training and induction programmes, that all staff are familiar with this policy and of their responsibilities to it. The policy will be reviewed on at least a yearly basis, with regard to ongoing legislation and documentation relating to good practice.
Minimisation of waste
ARS Ltd seeks to minimise waste production ensuring reuse, repair and recycling. ARS Ltd will dispose of its waste in a safe and responsible way. Measures include recycling of paper, card, plastic, glass and other items as appropriate, as well as maximising use of resources from sustainable and recycled sources.
ARS Ltd will seek to use personal road transport only when necessary and will use rail travel for meetings, where possible.
ARS Ltd will consistently seek to reduce carbon dioxide emissions through efficient energy use. Measures include shut down of all equipment when not in use, rather than leaving on standby, and ensuring all lights are switched off when premises are not in use. Energy efficient light bulbs are used, where possible. Using offices with renewable energy sources is also prioritised, where possible.
ARS Ltd will operate a purchasing practices policy in accordance with this environmental policy. Where possible all purchases will be sourced locally to maximise employment and reduce transport impact and carbon miles. Suitable companies with their own environmental policies will be actively used where possible.
ARS Ltd will set objectives and targets relating to our environmental performance, and seek to continually monitor, measure and improve our environmental performance.
Review of policy This policy will be reviewed at least annually by the management in the light of developments and experiences.
